Visiting APFEL was a great opportunity to get a flavour of what life could be like one day, the studio was very white and minimal- with work dotted around the walls. I'd seen a political poster designed by APFEL in Grafik magazine before the visit and I liked the clean, type based design, so having the opportunity to hear how they work was good. They gave some worthwhile advice too- To help to see their own progress and to work as a group they put work up around the walls and work on one big table rather than segregated desks. A collaboration at uni was the starting point of their career so self initiated projects and collaborations are helpful to show the skills you have talents that you may not be able portray through client briefs. They also spoke about inspiration they find in day to day design- flyers/leaflets/ads old & new which reminded me how important it is to always have your eyes open on what design is around you.
