I'm having lots of fun submersing myself into the world of Greetings Cards. I'm in glittery, starry heaven as I've been experimenting with the materials that give cards their character.
It's been quite difficult merging the concepts of happy, cheesy greeting card with gritty current social issues because the contrast is massive, but hopefully I've got it right so the set of cards has a double take effect on the audience. I'm hoping people will approach them and get an initial reaction of "Oo, a pretty card", and then follow on to read the main text and grasp the idea- which is using a greetings card format to highlight how socially acceptable these matters have become, we're no longer surprised to hear about them. I'm incorporating the tearing technique, which I used in the original collage project, to add to the idea of uncovering/exposing the issues. It's kind of a mickey take about what our society is accepting these days.. Hope I'm explaining that okay!
